Why Local Matters

Today, many people live in food deserts.  A person can be completely surrounded by greenery, parks, grocery stores, restaurants, and even farms.  Yet, little to none of the food they purchase is grown within a day's drive of where they live.

Much of our food comes from distant parts of the country or the world.  It has to travel hundreds or thousands of miles to be made available to you.  Complex measures are taken to ensure that food is preserved and looks ripe and palatable when it gets to our grocery stores.

Great amounts of energy are expended to make this happen, and sometimes, the benefits of food being allowed to ripen on its own terms, simply does not work with an interstate or global delivery model.

Our goal is to provide our neighbors a local and old-fashion option for buying nutritious food.

Buying local has many benefits
-Reduce the number of food miles your dinner travels by buying local
-Access high-quality nutrient-dense food that ripens naturally
-Access food that hasn't undergone any unnatural or questionable ripening, processing, or preservation
-Create jobs and keep more dollars in your local community
-Reverse the trend of "brain drain" from our rural communities by giving new farmers new opportunities
-Land stewardship:  Nobody has a larger stake in ensuring the land is cared for than the farmer who relies on it to be healthy and viable year after year
-Accountability:  You can see how and where your food is grown and shake the hand of the person that grew it
